Vol. 216 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Application of British Pension Increase.

22.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will make representations to the British Government to have the increase of 12/6 per week in the British old age pension made applicable to recipients of the pension who now reside in the Republic.

The British authorities will not pay increases granted in retirement pensions to persons living outside the United Kingdom except where reciprocal arrangements specifically so provide. During the course of discussions with the British authorities on proposed reciprocal arrangements involving pensions, my attitude to the British restrictions on the payment of their pensions to persons living in this country has been made clear. I do not see that further representations by me at this stage would serve any useful purpose but I will, of course, continue to press for the conclusion of a satisfactory reciprocal agreement with the British side in regard to pensions.
