Vol. 216 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kildare Estates.

26.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the Nurney Demesne, County Kildare, was sold recently for £34,000; and that whereas the previous owner employed eight men on the estate the new owner employs no one; and if he will give the reasons why the Land Commission did not purchase this estate for division when it was up for sale.

A substantial offer by the Land Commission last autumn for this 270 acre estate was not accepted and the property was subsequently sold at a price in excess of their assessment of value.

Does the Minister say then that the Land Commission would not be entitled to raise the price where they find there is a higher offer?

If the Land Commission were mad, they could offer £1 million for it.

The Land Commission appeared to be a little bit mad when they bought a farm against the Kildare Co-Operative Society.

Sin Ceist eile.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the Land Commission have now had possession of the Kirwan Estate, Nurney, County Kildare for a period of some two years; and when it is proposed to divide this estate.

This 198 acre property did not, in fact, become vested in the Land Commission until 12th June last. It is not possible at present to state when the lands will be divided but there will be no avoidable delay.
