Vol. 216 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kildare Telephone Faults.

54.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that telephone subscribers in the area of Celbridge, County Kildare have been experiencing great difficulties in obtaining numbers they wish to call since the Celbridge area was put on to the automatic telephone exchange; and that for some periods of the day they cannot even obtain a dialling tone from their instruments; what action his Department are contemplating in order to remedy these faults; and when such action will be carried out.

I am aware, and regret, that Celbridge subscribers have for some time past been meeting difficulty in making calls, as a result of traffic overload. Additional trunk circuits were provided last week following the completion of a new cable to Celbridge and other measures are being taken to bring the standard of service to a satisfactory level.

When does he expect that satisfactory standard to be reached?

The new circuits provided last week should considerably improve the service.
