Vol. 216 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cross-Border Roads.

25.

asked the Minister for Finance if steps are being taken to open the road from Ballaghmeehan to Garrison so that traffic can move freely; and if the cross-Border road at Kiltyclogher, County Leitrim will soon be declared an open road.

The question of approving these roads was considered as part of the review of cross-border traffic facilities carried out recently in consultation with the British Authorities. As already announced, the result of the review was that four new routes were approved. It is regretted that it was not found possible to include either of the two roads mentioned by the Deputy, as the potential traffic for these roads would not be sufficient to justify the cost of establishing and maintaining customs frontier posts.
