Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Gaeltacht Road Grants.

51.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will arrange with the Kerry County Council for the transfer of the Gaeltacht road improvement grants entirely from the main trunk roads to county roads in scenic areas to facilitate the tourist industry and its development in the backward areas and thus help the programme for economic expansion.

It is a matter for the Kerry County Council to formulate proposals for execution under their allocation from the grant for tourist roads in Gaeltacht and congested areas, in accordance with the conditions under which the grant is allocated, and I am awaiting their proposals under the grant for the current year. The roads referred to by the Deputy would however be more appropriately dealt with under the county road improvement programme, for which a separate grant of £141,460 has been allocated to the council.
