Vol. 216 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly Lands.

60.

asked the Minister for Lands if and when it is proposed to divide the lands of Mr. Frederick Dunne, Ballycumber, County Offaly, comprising about 95 acres; and if the lands will be allotted amongst the local smallholders and deserving applicants at an early date.

The Land Commission have recently decided to proceed for acquisition of this 97 acre estate. Owner's solicitors have been notified accordingly and the statutory notices will be published at an early date. However, it is still too soon to forecast the outcome.

I wish to thank the Minister very sincerely for his interest in this matter.

61.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission will urgently inspect the lands of the Kinsella Estate at Moneyguyneen, Kinnitty, Birr, County Offaly, which were recently purchased by a non-national (name supplied), with a view to their acquisition for the relief of local congestion.

I understand that this property has been the subject of recent proceedings in the High Court. In the circumstances, action by the Land Commission on the lines suggested by the Deputy is not considered appropriate at present.
