asked the Minister for Lands what land has been acquired in County Wexford for forestry purposes; when it is expected that planting will begin on such land; and what additional land, if any, his Department have under consideration in the same area for acquisition for forestry purposes.

The total area of land acquired by my Department for afforestation purposes in County Wexford is 19,929 acres, including 18,647 acres of productive land. A total of 15,584 acres of this land has been planted to date. There are at present 3,720 acres on offer for afforestation purposes in County Wexford. Agreement to purchase has been reached in 36 cases totalling 940 acres and title is in course of clearance. Negotiations to purchase are in progress with the owners of another 35 cases totalling 655 acres. The remaining cases are at the preliminary stages of investigation.
