Vol. 216 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - ESB Special Service Charge.

10.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power why a special service charge of £2 10s. 11d. per two months has been quoted by the Electricity Supply Board for Mr. William Foley, Marshallstown, Kilmessan, County Meath, who asked to be included in the Tara Post Development Rural Area.

Individual charges are calculated by the ESB in accordance with the principles which were dealt with in my reply to Question No. 5 asked by Deputy P. Hogan on 13th May, 1965.

Surely the Minister will agree that when post-development work is being carried out, it is unreasonable to single out one individual and charge him an excess service charge as in this case?

I have given a lengthy explanation in relation to this matter. There must be a mathematical calculation in this. There would be no other way. Otherwise, it would give rise to all sorts of suggested abuses. We are examining this question of service charges.

Would the Minister have this particular case further investigated with a view to alleviating hardship?

I shall have it checked.

Thank you very much.
