Vol. 216 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Derelict Cottages.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government when Dublin Corporation will demolish the derelict cottages at the junction of Lower Dodder Road and Rathfarnham Road, Dublin, and render the site safe and presentable; and the reason for the delay in attending to the matter.

The demolition of the cottages referred to is included in a proposal of Dublin Corporation for the extension of Bothar Páirce Dothra in both directions so as to link Rathfarnham Road with Braemor Road. I understand that the corporation have experienced difficulty in acquiring some of the necessary land and that they have commenced compulsory purchase order proceedings. I am not in a position to say when the work will be undertaken.

Is the Minister aware this site is an invitation to children and is dangerous? Would the Minister use his good offices with Dublin Corporation to ensure that a bulldozer is put in there at once to render it safe until such time as the compulsory purchase is finalised?

I shall cerainly do that but I suggest that as the Deputy is a member of that body, he might also use his good offices.

They will not listen to me; they will listen to the Minister.
