Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Private Capital Inflow.

1.

(South Tipperary) asked the Taoiseach the amount of private capital inflow over the past financial year; and if he will give a breakdown of this figure to show particularly and distinguish between short-term and long-term investment.

As stated in my reply on Tuesday last to a related question by Deputy Ryan the information available in connection with capital inflows and outflows is shown in the capital account of the Balance of International Payments. With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the estimated magnitude of both the inward and outward movements in 1964 under the available headings.

Since the data on capital inflow may appear under a number of the headings in question, it is not possible on the available information to make an estimate of the aggregate amount of private capital inflow nor to segregate it between short-term and long-term investment.

Following is the statement:—

ESTIMATED Capital Account of the Balance of International Payments in the year 1964.
