Vol. 217 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Marketing of Pigs.

38.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries whether it is his intention to control the marketing of live pigs.

The position is as I stated to the Deputy in reply to a question from him on this subject on 4th May.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary assure the House that, if anything arises about this matter during the Recess, no definite step will be taken during the Recess? If the Minister is going to do anything about the matter will his undertaking to me be honoured and the matter brought before the House before any definite step is taken?

In actual fact the Minister stated on that occasion that any question of proceeding with such proposals would involve consultations with the various interests concerned and the implementation of them would seem to require legislation.

That means we will be consulted.

If legislation is required that would be the case.

I should like to put it on the record that I hope that will be the position and that nothing will be done during the Recess.
