Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sewerage Schemes.

65.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he will approve the preliminary report submitted by the Kildare County Council in respect of Ballytore sewerage scheme.

I have not as yet received the preliminary report on this scheme from Kildare County Council. I understand, however, that they hope to submit it at an early date.

66.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he will approve the preliminary report submitted by the Kildare County Council in respect of Ballyfarsoon and Old Grange, Monasterevan, sewerage scheme.

I approved in principle of the preliminary proposals submitted by Kildare County Council in respect of this scheme on 19th July, 1965.

67.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he will approve the preliminary report submitted by the Kildare County Council in respect of Maddenstown-Brownstown sewerage scheme.

I have recently approved in principle of the preliminary report submitted by Kildare County Council in respect of this scheme.

68.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the up-to-date position regarding the sewerage scheme for Ballingarry Commons, County Tipperary.

I understand that Tipperary (SR) County Council have not yet completed their examination of the consulting engineer's revised preliminary report for this scheme.

69.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the up-to-date position regarding the sewerage scheme for Killenaule, County Tipperary.

Revised contract documents for this scheme incorporating a new method of sewage treatment were submitted to my Department by Tipperary (SR) County Council on 5th May last. Full examination of these documents cannot be completed until the county medical officer reports on this new method. This report was requested last July and it is understood that the county medical officer is still engaged on its compilation.

Am I to take it that the county medical officer of health, who was requested to report to the Minister last June or July, has not yet done so?

That is correct.

70.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the fact that sewage mains have recently been laid at Robinhood, Clondalkin, Dublin, but that no attempt has been made to service the school and the houses there which are in urgent need of sanitation; and if he will take steps to have this matter rectified.

I understand that the new sewer at Robinhood will eventually be joined to a permanent outfall but that, for the present, its capacity is limited by the capacity of the temporary treatment unit and the outfall available. I understand that the provision of sewerage facilities for the school is being considered by the appropriate authorities. I am informed that the houses at Robinhood would be outside the scope of the new sewer at present.

71.

asked the Minister for Local Government when it is likely that sanction will be given to the installation of a sewerage and water scheme for Littleton village, Thurles, County Tipperary.

Preliminary proposals for an interim water supply scheme for Littleton are at present being examined in my Department. I hope to convey a decision thereon to Tipperary (NR) County Council at an early date.

No proposals for a sewerage scheme have been submitted to my Department.

72.

asked the Minister for Local Government the cause of the delay regarding the sewerage schemes for Lifford, Convoy, Raphoe, Killygordon and Castlefin, County Donegal; and when it is expected that work will commence.

Delay in commencing the Finn Valley sewerage scheme is due to the withdrawal by the contractor who submitted the lowest tender thus necessitating the appointment of a new contractor. Sanction to the acceptance of the second lowest tender issued to Donegal County Council on 30th June, 1965. I understand that the contract has now been signed and that it is hoped to commence work on the scheme shortly.

Am I to take it there will be no difficulties in this scheme about getting money?

I could not say. The contract appears to have been signed and the work is about to commence. Nobody has suggested there was a difficulty and I do not see why I should anticipate any.

Does the Minister appreciate that the people in most of these villages are living in primitive sanitary conditions and that the Minister should do his utmost to expedite these schemes?

Of course. My acceptance of the first and second tenders was done with the least possible delay.

If he were as fast in County Dublin, I should be very pleased.

73.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the present position regarding the proposed sewerage scheme at Clondrohid, Macroom, County Cork.

I approved of Cork (South) County Council's proposals for the provision of a sewerage scheme at Clondrohid on 5th October.
