Vol. 218 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Admission of China to UN.

5.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Minister for External Affairs if it is now the policy of the Government to favour the admission of the Communist Chinese Government to the UN; if so, if he will outline what steps led to this decision; and whether the governments of any other countries were consulted.

The attitude of the Government to the question of the representation of China has not changed. I would refer the Deputy in this connection to the replies given by the Minister for External Affairs to similar questions by Deputies Cosgrave and Costello on 15th December, 1964, and to his statement of 30th September, 1965, in the General Assembly of the United Nations, copies of which have been placed in the Library.
