Vol. 218 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford Amenity Development.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the present position with regard to the amenity development scheme at Ferry-bank, Wexford; and if there has been any change in the position as outlined by him in the Dáil on 1st June 1965.

On 14th June, Wexford Corporation submitted certain technical details of the scheme requested by my Department. Further reports were submitted on 19th July and 9th September, dealing in particular with the swimming pool proposal. These details are being examined.

It is understood that Wexford County Council have submitted a resolution to the Office of Public Works requesting an investigation of the question of coast erosion affecting the site under the Coast Protection Act, 1963.

Is there any evidence in the Minister's Department of extensive coast erosion in this area?

Not that I am aware.

It seems extraordinary that this question should be brought along at this stage. A far as I know, there is no extensive coast erosion there. Why have the county council started this hare at this time?

I really do not know.
