Vol. 218 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Benefits of Migratory Labourers.

15.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when he proposes either by legislation or regulation to omit from means calculations any benefits accruing to migratory labourers and/or their dependants from the British Ministry of Pensions.

There is no proposal of this nature under consideration in my Department.

Would the Minister undertake to examine the matter? I spoke in great detail on this on the Estimate.

I cannot see any reason why this particular source of income should be excluded and other sources of income included.

Would the Minister not consider this having regard to the economic circumstances obtaining in the areas concerned? I would be obliged if the Minister would give consideration to this for the forthcoming Estimate.

Non-contributory pensions are related to the economic circumstances of the applicants.

Is this in respect of non-contributory pensions?

Yes, that is what I said. These pensions are related to the economic circumstances of the people applying.
