Vol. 218 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Yield of Levies.

10.

asked the Minister for Finance the estimated revenue which the recently imposed levies will yield before 31st March next; when a decision will be taken on whether or not to continue the levies after that date; and the factors which will govern the nature of that decision.

The estimated revenue yield from the special import levy in the period 2nd November, 1965, to 31st March, 1966, is £600,000.

As the Deputy is aware, the Order imposing the levy expires on 31st March next. It is hoped that it will not be necessary to extend the operation of the levy beyond that date. This question will, however, be decided in the light of developments in the economic situation. I am not in a position to state when a decision will be taken in the matter.
