Vol. 218 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Grants.

13.

asked the Minister for Local Government the approximate amount of housing grants in respect of houses awaiting inspection at the last convenient date.

There were approximately 5,370 cases awaiting inspection on 1st November. This figure includes private water and sewerage grant applications.

14.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will speed up the payment of housing grants and have housing inspectors call on the many applicants who are waiting to start work on new houses and on the reconstruction and repair of houses under section 5 of the Housing (Loans and Grants) Act, 1962.

There is no undue delay in the payment of housing grants and every effort is being made to keep inspection work up to date. Arrangements are proceeding for the recruitment of a substantial number of new inspectors and it is hoped to make these additional appointments in the near future.
