Vol. 218 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wicklow Housing.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of County Wicklow the number of applications (a) approved and (b) paid during the past twelve months in regard to (i) grants for new houses and (ii) grants for reconstruction and improvement of premises.

During the 12 months ended 31st October last, 156 applications for new houses grants in County Wicklow were approved and 62 grants were fully paid: 242 applications for reconstruction and improvement grants were approved and 203 grants were fully paid.

18.

asked the Minister for Local Government if any proposals exist for the erection of new county council cottages at (a) Kilcoole (b) Carnew (c) Bray and (d) Newtownmountkennedy, County Wicklow; and, if so, if he will indicate the present position regarding such proposals.

A proposal by Wicklow County Council to accept a tender for the erection of ten houses at Kilcoole was approved by me on 21st July last. Application for sanction to the raising of a loan to finance the scheme has not yet been received.

Work is nearing completion on a 5-house scheme at Carnew.

I understand that the council are negotiating for the acquisition of housing sites at Ballywalter, Bray and at Newtownmountkennedy.

19.

asked the Minister for Local Government the total number of applications at present pending for the vesting of county council cottages in Wicklow, indicating the numbers awaiting vesting for (a) less than one year, (b) more than one year, (c) more than two years, and (d) three years or more.

I have asked the county council to furnish the detailed information requested by the Deputy and I will forward it to him as soon as I receive it. At 31st March last, the council had on hands a total of 649 applications for vesting which had not been dealt with at that date.
