asked the Taoiseach (a) the value of total imports, (b) the value of total exports, (c) the adverse trade balance, and (d) the deficit in the balance of payments each year since 1945.

*The total value of imports and exports in 1955 and subsequent years have been amended to take account of revised estimates of the value of trade consigned by parcel post resulting from a new sample inquiry started in 1955. It is not possible to carry these amendments back beyond 1955 and so for comparative purposes both the old and the new 1955 figures have been shown in the above table.
