Vol. 218 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sligo Industrial Estate.

29.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what action he has taken as a result of the recent request of the Sligo Industrial Development Corporation Limited calling on the Government to set up an industrial estate in Sligo.

30.

andMr. Gilhawley asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if it is intended to set up an industrial estate at Sligo, as requested by the Sligo Industrial Development Corporation Limited.

I propose, with your permission a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 29 and 30 together.

As the Deputies are, no doubt, aware, a statement of Government policy in relation to development centres and industrial estates was issued in August of this year. It is not envisaged that the setting up of industrial estates in locations other than those mentioned in the Government statement will be undertaken pending completion of surveys of various regions, one of which comprises Counties Sligo and Leitrim, under the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963.

Are those the only areas which are being surveyed?

The whole country is being surveyed.

Have these surveys been started in any particular areas yet?

Yes, in Dublin and in Limerick.

What other areas are proposed to be done in the near future?

This is being done by the Minister for Local Government, and I suggest the Deputy put down a question to him.
