Vol. 218 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Income from Tourism.

1.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the method whereby the national income for tourism is calculated.

It is assumed that the Deputy is referring to the receipts from visitors to the State, which are entered in the Balance of Payments statement. The method used to estimate these receipts and the corresponding expenditure outside the country by Irish residents was described in the article "Numbers and Expenditure of Visitors to Ireland and Irish Visitors Abroad—Methods of Estimation used in the Annual Enquiries", published in the December, 1959, issue of the Irish Trade Journal and Statistical Bulletin, to which I would refer the Deputy.
