Vol. 218 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Closing of Cork Drapery Firm.

49.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that a firm (name supplied), close on 100 years established in Cork as a wholesale drapery firm and employing close on 300 workers, has been purchased by a Dublin firm whose first action has been to close down the factory and put 300 workers out of employment; and what steps he intends taking to prevent this creation of unemployment.

I would refer the Deputy to the written reply I gave to Deputy Barrett on 9th November, 1965.

The reorganisation of a private enterprise firm is not, as the Deputy is aware, a matter in which I could intervene.
