Vol. 218 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reorganisation of Labour Court.

55.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if in view of the recent press statements covering reorganisation of the Labour Court he will indicate when legislation is likely to come before Dáil Éireann; and what aspects are likely to be covered by any such legislation.

The position of the Labour Court and industrial relations generally are under review at present and this review may lead to the introduction of new legislation. I am not, at present, in a position to say when such legislation might be introduced, or to indicate what aspects of the matter might be covered by any such legislation.

Are there consultations within the Department?

There have been consultations and there will be further consultations, if necessary.

The Minister is looking into his heart.

Is the Minister in a position to indicate when the review is likely to conclude and when he will be in a position to make a statement as to the Government's proposals?

It should be quite soon but I am not in a position to be specific about the time.

Is it likely to be before Christmas or after Christmas?

I am working to have it before Christmas but I am not sure that that will be possible. My intention was to have it before Christmas, if possible.
