Vol. 218 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Newmarket (Cork) School.

77.

asked the Minister for Education the cause of the delay in erecting a new national school at Dromina, Newmarket, County Cork.

A site which the Very Reverend Manager offered for a new school at Dromina was considered to be too small and following discussion with an inspector of my Department the Manager undertook in July to obtain an extension to the site proposed.

The Commissioners of Public Works have arranged to have the site inspected in the course of the present week and, if it is found suitable for building purposes, sketch plans for a new three-room school will be prepared forthwith.

Did I not understand from the Minister last week that it was the Minister's idea not to build any more such schools? Why go to the extent of sketching plans and examining sites?

I do not know what the Deputy is talking about——

I am talking about the Minister's programme for building schools.

——but I had better tell the Deputy again what I said in case he may not have heard it. I referred to sketch plans for a new three-room school. Where did the Deputy get the idea we were not building three-room schools?

From the Minister.
