Vol. 219 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Supply Schemes.

48.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will find out from the Kerry County Council when a start will be made on the Ballymore water scheme, Dingle, County Kerry.

I am informed that due to difficulties in acquiring land and water rights Kerry County Council are not in a position to commence work on this scheme, which has been fully approved by me.

49.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will sanction the preliminary report submitted to him on 25th May, 1965 in connection with a water supply for Arranmore Island, County Donegal; and, if so, when.

Approval will issue to this report in the near future.

50.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has received plans from the Galway County Council for an extension of the Lettermore Tiernee water supply scheme; and, if so, if he will state (1) the area to be served by this extension, (2) the estimated cost of the extension, (3) the estimated Government contribution towards the total cost, (4) whether there are any particular difficulties associated with the scheme which could cause undue delay, and (5) the date upon which it is expected that final approval will be given to this scheme by his Department.

Plans for the interconnection of Lettermore and Tiernee water supply schemes were received in my Department last week.

1. The proposed scheme is intended to augment the existing supply at Lettermore and also to serve the area between it and Tiernee.

2. The estimated cost is £5,908.

3. The scheme will qualify for subsidy of 60 per cent towards the annual loan charges and may in addition be eligible for the extra assistance applicable to schemes in Gaeltacht areas.

4. Until the proposals are examined I am not in a position to say if there are any particular difficulties which would cause undue delay.

5. I am not in a position to say when final approval will be given to the proposals.

51.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the Powerstown area, Clonmel, will have a piped water supply.

I am not in a position to say when the Powerstown area will have a piped water supply. The servicing of this area is included in proposals for the Clonmel regional water supply scheme, which, I am informed, will be advertised for tenders when all legal arrangements regarding the transfer of land rights are finalised.

52.

asked the Minister for Local Government if there are any proposals to extend the water supply to council cottages at Timore and Chapel River, Newtownmount-Kennedy, County Wicklow; and, if so, when approximately the work will be done.

Proposals for a water supply extension to these areas are at present under consideration. I am not in a position to say when the work will be done.
