Vol. 219 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Charging of Increased Prices.

78.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what action he has taken in order to prevent firms, which had goods already in stock prior to the imposition of the recent import levies, from selling these goods to consumers at the higher prices obtaining after the imposition of the levies.

Any complaints received by me that importers or traders are availing of the Special Import Levy to increase their prices for stocks of goods on which the levy has not been paid, will be investigated. I will not hesitate to use my powers under the Prices Acts in any such instances, if the necessity should arise.
