Vol. 219 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Flats Site.

17.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that the site in the Benburb-Hendrick Street area, Dublin, that the Arran Quay Residents Association have been seeking for use as a practicable site for flat development, has changed hands three times; and whether he can at this stage designate the site for flat building purposes.

It is a matter for Dublin Corporation as the planning authority to decide on the development objectives for the city, including the objectives for the use of particular areas for particular purposes, under the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963.

I understand that the site in question is intended to be zoned for commercial and industrial purposes and that the corporation has granted permission under the Act for the erection of a factory on portion of it.

As the Deputy is aware from the replies to his previous questions, corporation housing schemes involving the provision of more than 300 new dwellings are in progress or in early prospect on other sites in the general area in question.
