Vol. 219 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Priorities.

19.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he proposes to amend the Housing (Management and Letting) Regulations so that a special priority may be prescribed for persons suffering from mental disorders, especially where bad housing conditions contribute to such.

It is proposed in section 60 of the Housing Bill, 1965, to provide that it shall be the duty of each housing authority to make a scheme determining the priorities to be accorded to specific categories of persons in the letting of houses. It would be open to housing authorities, in deciding these priorities, to have regard to factors such as the housing needs of persons suffering from mental disorders.
