Vol. 219 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin City Clearways.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government when clearways will be introduced in Dublin during peak traffic hours to permit multiple traffic lanes in directions of major traffic flow.

The regulation of traffic and parking in Dublin is primarily a matter for the Commissioner of the Garda Siochána after consultation with Dublin Corporation. Bye-laws or temporary rules in the matter must be submitted for my consent. I understand that the amendment of the existing bye-laws is being considered by the Commissioner but no proposals have yet been submitted for my consent.

Will the Minister for Local Government draw the attention of the Dublin traffic authorities to the second half of the 20th century and put an end to the bottlenecks daily occurring in the city?

It is a matter for the Garda and Dublin Corporation.

Perhaps if they had adopted the proper methods, they would not have had to disband the Garda Band in order to try to clear the bottlenecks.
