Vol. 219 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Navigation Lights.

48.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will have navigation lights erected on Lower Point and Owey Island, Kincasslagh, County Donegal to show up the rocks of Carrickacarnagh in Owey Sound where three fishermen lost their lives a few years ago.

I will have the Deputy's request investigated.

It is a few years since this fatal accident. Would one not think it would have been investigated by the Minister's predecessor, if not himself, before now?

My interest is the fishing interest. I am not really responsible for the safety of navigation.

Surely navigation and the proper return to port of a fishing boat is the Minister's interest and responsibility?

The welfare of the fishermen is my interest.

He is in the same category as the Minister for Transport and Power.
