Vol. 219 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Guards for Stormont Ministers.

49.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Minister for Justice whether he has seen the recent accounts of an armed guard being provided for Stormont Ministers; whether any discussions have been held with the RUC or the Stormont Minister for Justice on this matter; and whether any consultative machinery exists between the RUC and the Garda Síochána.

As a matter of principle, I feel that I must decline to answer any question of this kind in relation to a particular incident or set of circumstances.

There is communication generally between the Garda Síochána and the RUC as with other police forces on matters of mutual concern.

Mr. O'Leary

Were any extra security precautions taken on the occasion of the recent visit to Dublin of Mr. Faulkner when his plane touched down at the airport?

This is a security matter on which I decline to make any comment.

Mr. O'Leary

So, there was security?

It is a matter of security.
