Vol. 219 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Schools Medical Service.

164.

asked the Minister for Health if he will introduce proposals to amend section 19 of the Health Act, 1953 to allow the making of an order under this section to apply to secondary and vocational schools as well as to places providing elementary education, thus enabling the schools medical service to be extended to these schools.

Mr. O'Malley

I would refer the Deputy to my reply of the 2nd November, 1965 to a question on the School Health Service by Deputy Seán Moore.

I indicated that a comprehensive review of the School Health Service and of the Child Welfare Clinic Service was being made by a group comprising members of the staffs of my Department and of certain health authorities; and that I would consider the feasibility of extending the School Health Service to day pupils of vocational and other schools, including secondary schools, in the light of the report which will be submitted to me when the review is completed.
