Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Trade Discussions.

1.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Taoiseach whether he has seen the recent statement by the British Man-Made Fibres Federation in relation to the Anglo-Irish free trade agreement; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have seen the statement to which the Deputy refers but I am not in a position to make a statement on the matter.

2.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Taoiseach if his attention has been drawn to the statement of the spokesman of the Ulster Farmers Union who advocates in the context of the Anglo-Irish free trade agreement that agricultural deficiency payments from the British Exchequer should be confined to United Kingdom farmers, excluding those from the Republic; that the deficiency payments should apply only to a narrow range of agricultural products; and that the domiciliary period for cattle should be reduced and not abolished; whether this reflects the view of the British agricultural negotiators at the present talks; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have seen a report of the statement referred to but I am not in a position to make a statement on the matter.
