Vol. 219 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Mineral Deposits.

129.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the existence in County Mayo of mineral reserves of copper, lead, etc.; and what steps he proposes to take to have them developed.

The records of the Geological Survey indicate occurrences of copper, lead and other minerals in a number of areas in County Mayo. The Government do not participate directly in the exploration and development of minerals but provides facilities and incentives for private enterprise to engage in these activities. In recent years, I have granted six prospecting licences in respect of minerals in County Mayo and a number of further applications is at present under consideration.

Questions Nos. 130 to 133, inclusive, postponed.
