Vol. 219 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Increase in Milk Prices.

136.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is aware that certain milk suppliers have not received an increase in milk prices because of the recent Prices Stabilisation Order; and if he will immediately take steps to have this situation remedied.

Milk producers in the areas of the Dublin and the Cork District Milk Boards received an increase in the minimum prices for their milk with effect as from 1st October, 1965 under an Order which I made under the milk (Regulation of Supply and Price) Act, 1936. I do not control producers' milk prices in any other area.

Is the Minister aware that certain milk producers who sell milk to local bottlers and pasteurisation plants did not get this increase and because the increase had not been given before a certain date, it cannot be given now, and will he do something to see that they get this increase? I am talking about producers who sell to bottling plants supplying provincial towns.

My Department has no regulation whereby that increase cannot be given. I take it that the Deputy is referring——

The Parliamentary Secretary's Department can ring up the Department of Industry and Commerce. The Parliamentary Secretary's Department must defend the farmers. May I take it that he will take this up with Industry and Commerce and that if I provide details of the particular cases, something will happen, that the matter will be considered?

We can arrange to have the matter considered.

I am regarding that as an undertaking.
