Vol. 219 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drogheda Fishmeal Factory.

143.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if his attention has been drawn to reports about the possibility of a fishmeal factory being established at Mornington, Drogheda; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that fishermen's organisations are at present examining the possibility of establishing a fishmeal factory on the east coast. I have not yet received any firm proposals in the matter.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary say whether or not any suggestion that a fishmeal factory should be established in Mornington has been brought to the notice of his Department, specifically in Mornington?

No. There was a question on this in October and the reply at that stage was that there were no current proposals for such a project. There has not been any specific request to my Department.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary say whether or not a suggestion that a fishmeal factory be erected in Mornington has been discussed by anybody with his Department? Let us get an answer "Yes" or "No". The Parliamentary Secretary is as well aware as I am but an attempt is being made to cover up something which need not be covered up because it is common knowledge. Would the Parliamentary Secretary just tell the truth?

Not that I know of. No discussions have taken place.
