Vol. 219 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Fisheries.

144.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if it is his intention to introduce legislation giving his Department power to acquire unrated or abandoned fisheries with a view to their development; and if such acquired fisheries will be made available to local angling associations.

The Council of Boards of Fishery Conservators was recently invited to furnish me with an assessment of the extent of unrated or abandoned fisheries in each fishery district which can be regarded as calling for development. I propose to await the making of such an assessment before deciding whether the introduction of legislation to deal with the problem would be warranted. In the meantime the second part of the question does not arise.
