Vol. 219 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath SDA Loan.

65.

asked the Minister for Local Government the amount of the SDA loan applied for by Meath County Council; the date on which the application was made; and the amount sanctioned.

Application for sanction to a loan of £100,000 was made on 8th September last. At that time there was a substantial balance available from a previous loan the final instalment of which has only been issued this month. The loan of £100,000 has not yet been sanctioned.

Is the Minister aware that Meath County Council have satisfied applications in respect of £94,500 of that loan? They have completed payments of all of the last loan granted by the Minister and will he now expedite payment of the application at present before his Department?

My information is that of the £15,000 outstanding, £5,000 was sent to the council in November and £10,000 during the early days of this month. There has been further telephonic communication with the local authority office and it is understood that the £100,000 forthcoming in the near future will meet their needs.

Has the Minister not been informed by the officials of Meath County Council that £94,500 of the £100,000 is bespoken to applicants who are in various stages of building houses? In fact, some of the houses are almost completed. In those circumstances, would the Minister not try to make the money available this year and not early next year as he stated yesterday?

If this information has been published, I have not got any record of it here at the moment. From the information I have, this would appear to be adequate. That is subject to correction.

Will the Minister take the necessary steps to find out if the figure which was supplied is correct?

It may be that it was supplied to the Department but I have not got it and the information that I have would appear to give a different idea. However, I will check on it.

Is there any hope of their being paid this year?

You never know.
