Vol. 219 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prices of Packaged Goods.

106.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether in examinations of prices regard will be had to the growing practice of selling certain commodities exclusively in packets and of charging therefor prices well in excess of the true price for such commodities and packets; and if he will ensure that increased packaging will not be used as a vehicle for obtaining exorbitant profits.

In the examination of prices by my Department, regard is had to all relevant factors. I understand that there is a trend towards the use of packaged goods, but I am not aware that the cost of packaging has been reflected generally in an undue increase in prices to the consumer.
