Vol. 219 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Síochána Band.

122.

asked the Minister for Justice the financial arrangements made by his Department and the Garda Síochána in connection with last year's trip to the United States of the Garda Band; and, in particular, what money was paid to the State by the promoters.

As indicated in the reply to a Parliamentary Question on 15th April, 1964, the financial arrangements in connection with the tour of the Garda Band were that the entire costs were to be borne by the sponsors and that there would be no expense to public funds.

The position is that there was no expense and no profit to the State.

Will the same arrangements apply in the case of the Australian tour?

I am sure that such arrangements will apply.

Is it true that they have been invited to Australia?

I am told that one of the Army Bands has been invited.

Then it is not true about the Garda Band?

Nothing has been clarified about that.

123.

asked the Minister for Justice the percentage of the total Vote for the Garda Síochána represented by the net cost of the Garda Síochána Band in 1930, 1940, 1950, 1960 and 1965.

It is estimated that the cost of the Garda Band in pay, allowances and pension liability represented 0.435 per cent of the Garda Vote in 1960 and that it will represent 0.438 per cent in 1965.

It has not been possible to ascertain figures for 1930, 1940 or 1950.
