Vol. 220 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath SDA Loan.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has yet sanctioned the application made by Meath County Council in September 1965 for an SDA loan of £100,000; and if not, why.

Sanction has been given to a loan of £30,000 which is estimated to be sufficient to meet payments arising on foot of house purchase loans for some time to come. I will be in touch with the housing authority shortly in regard to the amount of money which will be allocated to them next year for payments on foot of house purchase loans.

I have been informed that there was an undrawn balance from a previous loan which had been allocated but had not been drawn. This amounted to almost £30,000 out of a total of £90,000 which was bespoken to people who had applied after that loan was allocated. Would the Minister say how he expects £30,000 to meet the requirements of a £90,000 application?

My information, from examination carried out in this particular case, is that the unexpended balance of £90,000 plus £30,000 is adequate to meet the requireements for some time.

Will the Minister take my word, as a member of the county council, that that information is incorrect? Will he again ask the Meath County Council to give the exact position because it is obvious that the Minister has been misinformed?

If he is bust, there is nothing he can do.

There is something else in it as well.

I will check on that but I would be surprised if the information is not correct.

The Minister can take my word that the information is not correct.
