Vol. 221 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Secondary School Building Grants.

29.

asked the Minister for Education the total sum paid by his Department up to the end of January, 1966 in building grants to secondary schools and the number of applications for grants awaiting sanction.

Payment of grants under the scheme will consist of meeting up to 60 per cent of the repayments, both capital and interest, on loans obtained by managers to meet the cost of building. The stage of repayment of such loans has not been reached in any case.

Eighty-two cases are awaiting sanction. They are at various stages of consideration.

Can the Minister say if the these grants that will be made available are for schools of 150 pupils and over and if there is any case for schools with under that number of pupils?

To the best of my knowledge, they are all confined to schools with 150 pupils and over.
