Vol. 221 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Closing of County Sligo School.

40.

asked the Minister for Education what is the position regarding the proposed closing of Culleens national school, County Sligo; if he is aware that following pressure by his Department on the manager to provide a site over a number of years a three-acre site has been made available; that part of the local contribution has already been subscribed; and that the remainder is forthcoming; and if in the event of the closing of the school he is prepared to recommend the erection of a group school in the parish.

From the detailed investigations which I have had made, I am satisfied that the educational interests of the children of this district would be best served by the building of a three-roomed school at Culleens to cater for that area and for the Kilglass area. I am hopeful that all the interests concerned will agree that this is the proper course to follow.
