Vol. 221 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Car Assembly Differential.

12.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will do away with the differential now existing between cars assembled in England and those assembled in this country; and what it is proposed to do in this regard in relation to the free trade agreement with the United Kingdom.

Our obligation under Article IV of the Free Trade Area Agreement is to eliminate the protective element in the duty applicable to imports of assembled cars manufactured in Britain. It is proposed to do this in ten annual instalments beginning on 1st July next.

The Deputy wants to create more unemployment quicker.
