Vol. 221 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Nelson Pillar Site.

20.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Minister for Local Government whether in the aftermath of the demolition of Nelson Pillar he will hold any consultations with Dublin Corporation on the substitution of an alternative monument on the site, as it is important that the centre should remain a focal point in the interests of business in the area

I have already initiated discussions with the Dublin Corporation on the question of improving pedestrian facilities in the area. I cannot say at this stage what further discussions will be held.

Mr. O'Leary

Will the provision of pedestrian facilities cut out the possibility of an extension of the monument site?

I do not get the Deputy.

Mr. O'Leary

There is an argument that the provision of the pedestrian crossing may rule out the possibility of anything extra being done to the vacant site previously occupied by the monument.

I do not think that necessarily follows.
