Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Cattle Market.

24.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Minister for Local Government whether any modernisation of the Dublin Cattle Market is contemplated in the future; and whether any consultations have taken place between his Department and the interests concerned.

Dublin Corporation are at present considering proposals for the modernisation of the Cattle Market. Arising from representations made to me by private firms whose interests might be affected, I have received deputations from those firms, from the Cattle Salesmasters' Association, and from the Dublin City Council for the purpose of hearing their views.

Has the Minister made any decision in regard to private firms outside?

May I take it that if there is a proposal to carry out modernisation and alteration of the abattoir, the Minister for Local Government will keep in constant touch with the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries to see that the facilities are not duplicated. The Dublin abattoir is one of the finest in the world but it does not meet with EEC requirements.

The question has to do with the Cattle Market.

I am sorry.
