Vol. 221 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Board of Works Liftshaft.

9.

asked the Minister for Finance when work commenced on the erection of a new liftshaft in the the Office of Public Works; when it will be completed; the reason for the delay to date; the methods adopted in placing the contract; whether the contract was on the basis of an estimate or on time and material; and if he will state the cost of the work.

Work on the construction of the new liftshaft with the necessary machine room and fireproof lobbies commenced in November, 1964, and is now virtually complete. The work which is being carried out on a time and material basis has been delayed mainly because of the necessity to make good structural defects in the existing building which came to light after work on the liftshaft had started.

Eleven firms were invited to tender and the most favourable of eight tenders received was accepted.

The cost of the construction work is approximately £6,800. The cost of making good the structural defects in the existing building is about £5,200.
