Vol. 222 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Decorations for 1916 Ceremonies.

6.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that Dublin Corporation ordered flags and bunting for the 1916 celebrations from an English firm; if Irish firms were contacted before the order was placed; the cash amount of the order; and which Committee of Dublin Corporation was responsible for this decision.

I am not so aware. I understand from Dublin Corporation that the flags and bunting were purchased at a cost of £4,953 16s. 3d. from two firms from among the known suppliers of these items in Dublin who had been invited to submit quotations. As the purchase of such items is an executive function, the question of a decision by a committee of the corporation did not arise.

Mr. O'Leary

What large firm did the Parliamentary Secretary say in Dublin?

From two firms.

Mr. O'Leary

There were no English firms involved in any purchase of flags or bunting for the 1916 celebrations by Dublin Corporation? There were no orders placed with any English firm for flags or bunting? Is that what the Parliamentary Secretary is saying?

There were two firms in Dublin.

Mr. O'Leary

And the suppliers may have bought them in England.
