Vol. 222 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tyre Retreading Standards.

8.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Minister for Local Government if there is any check made at present on the standards employed by tyre retreading firms; if he is aware of the danger to safe driving arising where tyre remoulds are cut too close; and whether it is considered necessary to take any action at the present time to institute proper standards.

No control is exercised at present. It is intended to provide for such control in the Bill to amend the Road Traffic Act, 1961, which is at present being drafted.
