Vol. 222 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rates Collection.

10.

asked the Minister for Local Government the estimated amount of rates that will be collected in 1966-67, and the increase over last year.

The estimated amount leviable in rates in 1966-67 is £32.79 million, an increase of £2.95 million over the corresponding figure for 1965-66.

Is the Minister aware that the Fianna Fáil Party at one time promised to give complete derating to the people of Ireland? Is this how they keep their promises?

As far as derating is concerned, Fianna Fáil have done it, and the Deputy knows it.

They have done very little. Last year, we were promised that the rates would not be increased but, nevertheless, they were increased.
